The people here in the United States are being asked to practice social distancing and stay at home. We are approaching week three and in this time there is a lot of anxiety, depression, and panic surrounding the population, but I am not going to let it consume me. I rebuke it in the name of the Lord! Instead, I choose to make the best of this time. As a stay at home mom I know it may not seem like much has changed in my day-to-day and I’d agree for the most part it has not. The two main things that have changed are my inability to go to the gym and my husband, who is now working from home. So... I figure since I’m pretty much a professional when it comes to staying in the house and avoiding people like a plague... (too soon?) Keep reading to learn how to self-quarantine like a boss!
STOCK UP!
Are we going to talk about toilet paper right now? I feel like toilet paper hasn’t been this popular since it came out. Nevertheless, whether you like it or not, you are going to want to stock up on your daily household needs. Toilet paper is a good example but let us not forget items such as, non-perishable foods, water/water filters, vitamins, feminine products, cleaning supplies, etc.. I know many people are either scared to leave the house or just do not feel like being met with an empty shelf so I will try my best to link items that can be delivered to you as well. CLICK HERE
RELAX
Now that you are stocked up you can relax. For some this may feel like they won the lottery and for others it may seem impossible. I understand both perspectives and I want to let you know that regardless of it being easy or hard in a time like this it is necessary. So close those eyes, relax those shoulders, stop clenching your teeth and remember to breathe.
LIMIT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA INTAKE
Be careful not to spend your extra time diving down the social media rabbit hole. I know a lot of us are trying to stay entertained but remember to try to keep it lite. It’s easy to lounge around all day, phone in hand, letting hours go by refreshing feeds out of habit more than excitement. When you reach this point, perhaps try putting the phone down and actually doing something productive or at least worth “sharing” at a later date. Pun intended.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Some of my younger readers are probably wondering if I’m not in school, at work, or on social media what is there to do? They aren’t alone, right? All of us are wondering the same exact thing. Do I relax? Do I stay busy? Let me help you with that. Do something different. If you are a workaholic boss lady always on the go, try taking this time to relax. Not pretending to relax, but what you’re really doing is thinking about the million things you’re going to do when you are done. Nope! I am calling you out homegirl! Being a boss whether it be of your home or company means you are always on go. You need to be when you are the go-to, but right now the world has slowed down and you do have time. So, unclench those teeth, relax those shoulders, and empty that mind boo.
Aht! Aht! Doing something different also applies to all my procrastinators as well. If usually you are the one to hold off on completing tasks and you find yourself wondering what you should do to self-quarantine like a boss, try writing a list of things you’ve been wanting to complete and complete them. There is literally no excuse for you not to push yourself in this time. Trust me when I say you will find great satisfaction in merely being able to cross that task off of your to-do list. Not only that but you will also feel a great reward in just shaking up your routine and doing something out of your ordinary.
LEARN SOMETHING
Learn something! Whether it be a bible verse, dance, card game or whatever nothing says boss like being able to put your student shoes on, being vulnerable to messing up, and watching yourself progress until one day you’re a boss with more to offer. If you don’t believe me start off with something small like a TiK Tok dance. You’ll see a dance you like. You will try to do it. You will look ridiculous. You will try a few more times and still look ridiculous, but a little more like the video you’re watching. Try a million more times and start to look like you might be able to pull this off with just a few more tries. Voila! You did it! Yes, now you’re walking around your house the way kids walk around Target busting random dance moves while mumbling whatever the song is because now it is stuck in your head. I digress… The point is now you’re a Tik Tok sensation, Ellen wants to meet you and your traveling the world living the good life. (Shameless plug follow me on Tik Tok @NIATARAH) Or bare minimum you learned a new dance that you can randomly show off when this mess is over or you have a funny video to send to your friends and laugh together.
CLEAN, DECLUTTER, ORGANIZE
In order to be a true boss you need clarity, starting with your space. The reason we start with our space? It is within our control and a direct reflection of what’s going on within. I don’t know about you but I sleep better in a clean room, cook quicker in a clean kitchen, enjoy my food more in a clean dining area, and work better in a neat working space. These days it seems I can’t work unless my home is clean but we’ll address that topic another time. I encourage you to take control of all aspects of your life but let’s start with our space. While indoors for the next few weeks feel free to move past your normal cleaning activities and dive deeper into decluttering, downsizing where needed, and organizing what is left. Don’t forget the most neglected areas such as junk drawers, storage areas, windows, floorboards, walls, etc. For some this just may mean a drawer and for those of you like myself this will be a process. Either way we are all bosses and real bosses aren’t afraid to get a little dirty in the process because they know it leads to a better tomorrow.
EAT GOOD FOOD
We might as well eat food we love since the joys of sharing meals are at an all time low. Take this time to create your favorite dishes. Make your OG favorites, maybe a family recipe you haven’t had in a while or even attempt to recreate your favorite restaurant dish. Anything is possible between Google, Pinterest and Youtube. We literally now have cookbooks in the palm of our hands and delicious recipes at the click of a button. Why not eat like a queen? Disclaimer: I will not be held accountable for any weight gain as a result. So don’t forget to also search for healthy meals as well. I also want to remind you that many food spots are still open for takeout and many have delivery options as well. Also, don’t forget that Amazon Prime has food delivery (in select locations).
CONNECT
Bosses need love too. Make sure in this time of social distancing you are still building connections. Reach out to your family and friends and let them know that you are thinking of them. Make sure the people that are in high-risk categories have everything they need. I know we are blessed to have FaceTime but I’ve been thinking about writing letters to some people. I think that it would be fun to send and receive letters like in the older days. Let me know in the comments if you want me to write you a letter or if you were to write a letter, who in your life would actually appreciate it?
I hope this was helpful to those having a hard time with this current situation. People on Facebook are crying out that they are bored and how dreadful it is being in the house. I can’t relate. Many people have lost loved ones, jobs, businesses, etc., so if you don’t do anything else make sure you are thanking the universe that you are still here. You have your health. You are in your home and not a prison or hospital. I thank you and I thank God for you. We will get through this. Separate but together. You are a boss alone for finding this post and reading until the end, Thank you.
